Points of Interest

As you walk through the Believe Memorial Garden you will find a number of interesting design features along the way…

Welsh Fruit Trees

We were grateful to our friends at Freely Fruity for donating the Welsh Fruit trees you see throughout the garden.

We are also now looking to add to our garden with the local schools with our ’transplant a tree day’. The first tree is due to be planted by Llanishen High School in the next couple of weeks.

Our Bespoke Benches

‘The Pebble’ was designed and produced by Specialist Precast Products (SPP) . The former company of Martyn Fear . It was produced to be ascetically pleasing and practical for both public and private locations. It is simply known as ‘The Pebble’.

‘Drift Bench’ was designed by Amanda Levete and made under licence by SPP. The bench is a hi-quality, design lead product which is cast using specific aggregates to achieve the traditional terrazzo effect.

Amanda Levete is a renowned designer and architect who was born in Bridgend, South Wales and has enjoyed huge success in her career. Her current practice is AL_A who gave permission for Nulla Carbo Fabrica to donate the ‘Drift Bench’ to Believe.

To deliver these amazing benches we were so grateful for further collaboration with Sacyr who managed to secure a crane with the assistance of Davies Crane Hire and carriers SGM Waste Management.

Our Special Red Resin Road

Designed and showing the importance of the heart from above, Anna-Louise selected the ’shiraz’ resin and Tredomen went to work in making their first ever path in the shape of a heart.

We love the way that this path can be seen so visibly from above and has been likened to a medical heart monitor.

The Heart & Quotes from Donor Families

Within the heart that has been filled with Welsh Slate, we have started to collect quotes from donor families and those involved in the process in the hope to dispel myths and misconceptions.

Anna-Louise and other donor families realise how difficult the processes can be and, sadly, that people still continue to be ‘put off’ donation with it remaining a taboo subject.

We are working together with all those within the communities to add to these quotes. If you wish to have your quote included then please contact Anna directly.

The Memory Bowl

The hand-crafted, granite Memory Bowl is there to honour those affected by organ donation.

The first pebble was from Anna-Louise’s personal Fraser Bear Pebble memorial stone, and was placed by Roman, Fraser’s heart recipient, accompanied by Fraser’s sister Elizabeth.

The wording was designed and approved by Donor Families and we hope that it really does honour the FAB Gift of Life.

To remember your special person(s) then you too can purchase your own memory stone by clicking here.

The Boulders & Entrance and Exit Stones

Simon from MS-Group and Anna-Louise visited their local quarry in Machen to view the impressive boulders available on site. These stones, once selected, were chosen for their natural character and for the way they reflect the distinctive terrain of the Welsh countryside.

The locally sourced limestone boulders bearing the handprints were generously donated by Heidelberg Materials. The entrance and exit boulders, hewn from Welsh Pennant sandstone from the hills of the Black Mountains, were donated by Gwrhyd Specialist Stone Quarry.

Mossfords Memorial Masons, part of the MS Group, then carved the inscriptions into the boulders and engraved the Ambassador handprints and signatures on to black granite plaques and inset them into the boulders before installing each piece within the garden. Mossfords also donated and crafted the commemorative plaque unveiled at the opening of the garden.
